Toll-free Vanity Numbers

Stephanie Bernstein, owner of Eyes of the Forest, Inc., has never been a big fan of vanity numbers. But when she decided to get a toll free number for her business, she thought, why not try a vanity number? TollFreeNumber.org helped her obtain a vanity number that not only helps her customers remember her number, but also duals as an advertisement for her company product, 877-To-Go-Ware.

Use a Toll Free Number and Save Money

With a toll free number, the average business will experience a fifty percent decrease on product returns, receive increased telephone orders by about thirty to sixty percent, and referrals by word-of-mouth should increase by about two hundred percent. But why should a business choose a vanity number? It certainly isn’t for everyone. In some cases, a vanity number can actually hurt the business. A company that can effectively use a part of their name or company motto as their vanity number stands a good chance of using it successfully.

Businesses would do well to take a hint from Fortune 500 companies. In a study released by the Response Marketing Group, research showed that eighty-six percent of companies on the Fortune 500 list used toll free numbers. Fifty percent of these companies use vanity numbers, or words that translate into numbers on a telephone’s dial pad.

Toll Free Advertising

These big-name companies spend large amounts of money in advertising campaigns in order to firmly plant their number in the viewer’s mind. It is much easier to remember 877-MY-Exxon as opposed to the corresponding numbers, 877-693-9966. Exxon-Mobile is second on Fortune 500’s 2007 list.

A vanity number can be customized in a variety of ways. The use of a combination of letters, as Wiley Early did for his online Goji store. He chose 888-WEE-Goji, a combination of his initials and the name of the Goji plant, which is his website’s main product. Debbie Joseph, an independent Shaklee distributor used 888-Why-Shaklee? Joseph’s custom number demonstrates how a vanity number can use letters following the actual number to complete a name.

If a desired combination is already taken, a combination of letters and numbers might work, as Lori Titus did for her honey products business. Her vanity number is 877-4-BEE-FOLK.

Rex Rouvierre, internet broadcaster of a science fiction talk show on www.I-SCI-FI.com, previously had a numerical toll free number with another company. His new vanity number from TollFreeNumber.Org, 1-877-I-SCI-FI-2, has made a big difference to his listeners. “They really like the fact that they don't have to remember some obscure number,” Rouvierre explains.

Whether a company is new, growing, or well established, a business owner should consider the tremendous benefits a permanent vanity number can bring. It may seem like a small step, but it is a step that can pack a wallop in today’s market where very small things make a big difference to consumers.
